FAQ

What qualities must a fabric, used for awnings, have?

This type of fabric must comply with the following parameters: colour fastness / resistance to light and atmospheric agents / rot-resistance / dimensional stability of the awning / resistance to atmospheric contamination / air permeability / water-repellency / design protection / protection against UV rays / ease of maintenance / self-cleaning finish / manufacturer’s warranty.

How many types of fabrics with solar protection exist today?

There are many different types of fabrics in the market. Sauleda can provide all the available types:

  • Acrylic fabric: fabric with 100%-solution dyed acrylic fibre. With this technique the heart of the fibre is impregnated with colour, obtaining bright, light-resistant colours for a very long period of time.
  • Panama (Plus) acrylic fabric: a luxury fabric with a 2x2 weft that is heavier and thicker than normal acrylic fabrics. The fibre is also 100%-solution dyed, which keeps the colours bright and resistant to light for decades.
  • Polyester fabrics: fabrics made from fire retardant polyester fibre, 100% solution dyed for outdoor use.
  • Technical coated fabrics: for solving the problem of waterproofing in damp atmospheres and extreme weather conditions, the Technical coated fabrics offer the perfect response.

What does 100% solution dyed acrylic fibre mean?

100%   solution dyed acrylic fibre is a dying process that impregnates the heart of the fibre, obtaining bright, glowing colours. The coloured pigments impregnate the polymer dissolution before the fibre is formed. This gives high resistance to wear, excellent colour fastness, optimum resistance and exceptional behaviour in outdoor conditions and in the presence of micro-organisms.

How can I tell whether the fabric is made by Sauleda and that it is not an imitation?

Our main concern is protecting consumers, and for that reason we register and protect all our designs. Furthermore, to help consumers recognise     fabrics made by Sauleda, we mark the fabric edges with an “S”. Check that the fabric has an “S” on the edge, as this is essential to enforce the warranty.

Will the technician recommend the most appropriate fabric to suit my needs?

It is very important for the installer to explain the exact function and situation of the awning you want to install, in order to recommend the most appropriate fabric.

Is Sauleda’s fabric self-cleaning?

Sauleda applies a finish that prevents dirt from building up on the fabric and makes it easy to clean. This way, the water drags the surface layer of dirt. However, it will not eliminate stains or encrusted dirt.

What other uses do Technical coated fabrics have?

The Technical PVC coated fabrics or technical fabrics have a wide variety of applications. These are just some of them: truck awnings, pool covers, sign fabrics, awnings, pergolas, vellum, rigid shades for decoration, flame retardant fabrics, architectural structures, digital printing for signs and advertising, water storage, artificial lakes, high-speed industrial doors, sports facilities, camping, sailing, bimini, canopies, children’s play areas, construction and rehabilitation of buildings.

Does the fabric offer protection from UV rays?

Yes, the fabric provides excellent solar protection. When used for awnings, screens, curtains, etc. the fabric protects the whole family from UV rays, as it disperses and filters the rays, preventing them from coming into direct contact with the skin.

What is the spray test?

This is a laboratory test performed to determine the resistance of fabrics to surface wetting. In this test, “artificial rain” is applied to the fabric and then its effects on the fabric are evaluated. As a result, we can guarantee that all Sauleda fabrics have excellent hydrophobicity.

What is the hydrophobicity of a fabric?

This refers to the water-tightness of the fabric. Good hydrophobicity allows the awning to dry quickly, thus preventing dust from building up.

Reach Manifiesto standard applicable to the main European awning fabric manufacturers.

Dear Sirs,

During the course of the last few months we have received a large number of queries about the obligation to provide information on the REACH Regulations related to fabrics for awnings.

The fabric manufacturers listed below hereby confirm in reference to the products included in their current collections that they comply with the legal provisions, and that are not subject to the obligation to provide information and to strict compliance with the Oeko-Tex® label regulations.

What characteristics are not considered faults in the fabric?

The visual characteristics of the fabric during the storage or production process are not considered faults, since minor undulations may inevitably develop..  In plain coloured fabrics, the creases in the fabric during production and handling may be slightly visible when held up to the light. In the case of such creases developing, this does not affect the quality of the product and does not constitute a reason for enforcing the warranty.

What does the fabric warranty cover?

The warranty covers any unusual wear and tear of the fabric and the colour of it and its applicable as of the date of the awning installation.

When does it begin?

This warranty takes effect from the date of installation.

What document is important to preserve?

To enforce the warranty you should conserve the invoice for the system and the installation.

What items does the warranty replace?

The warranty only includes the replacement of the fabric required to restore the awning.

What does the warranty not cover?

Any part of the awning other than the fabric manufactured by Sauleda, S.A., such as the fittings, mechanisms, hanging parts, structures, etc.  The installation of the awning, its manufacture, production, installation and maintenance.  Damage to the fabric due to ageing and normal use. Damages caused by incorrect installation or incorrect maintenance (abrasive cleaning).

What items are excluded from the warranty?

Particularly, the warranty excludes the following accidents, misuse and negligence:

  • Insufficient maintenance or the use of inadequate products or tools.
  • The incorrect use of detergents, chemicals or solvents, scraping tools or abrasive brushes, or other instruments that could damage the fabric.
  • Abnormal weather conditions.
  • Air pollution, the use of pesticides, soiling caused by animals, bird excrements.
